“CONTRA SPEM SPERO! “ The artwork is homage to one of the strongest women of Ukraine, the poetess of the 19th century - Lesya Ukrainka. It is eponymous for the poem she wrote in 1890. "Contra spem spero'' translates from Latin as "Without hope I hope." This poem has lived in my heart since childhood, but only now have I realized its power.
